Curiosity Boxes

These 3-D, mixed-media works of boxed assemblage were inspired by my love of collecting found objects: from the left-behind gems of flora or fauna - leaf, acorn, feather, to  historical bric-a-brac: stamps, images, game pieces, bottles...

They are “After Cornell,” the late American artist and sculptor, (the most celebrated exponent of assemblage,) whose Shadow Boxes captivated the world during the early to mid-20th century.

Above all, they are fantasy boxes, worlds within worlds, which evoke nostalgia and celebrate the lively, often irrational,juxta-positions of surrealism, and dreamscape - actively encouraging the co-creation of the observer.
